Kriya Yoga and its benefits

Kriya Yoga is a powerful tool that enables the practitioner, among other things, to bring what Freud called "the subconscious and the unconscious part of our mind under the control of the conscious". Modern psychology is only beginning to explore these abilities of the mind. A therapy based on the Buddhist meditation technique of 'mindfulness' has recently been accepted as a mainstream treatment option for anxiety states. I have found the practice of Kriya Yoga of great help in my profession. The insight gained from the meditative practice lives up to the demands of helping people with mental health problems in terms of both understanding the illness and empathising with the patient. As a disciple, I have always sought Guruji's advice on all personal matters of importance, and his advice has stood the test of time. His guidance has always been a source of assurance and peace. I came to meet Guruji while I was living and travelling in India for over a year. I had been reading about Hatha Yoga and wanted to explore it. I knew there were different ways that Kriya was being taught and was drawn to learn this beautiful and ancient practice in its original form. Guruji is the only teacher that I know of who is teaching it how it was originally taught and passed down through the ages. This original teaching has begun to get lost in the 'sea' of other forms of yoga. This original teaching is important in the health, wellbeing and transformation of those that practise it. I spent the best part of my year in India with Guruji. At first I studied Hatha Yoga and different forms of meditation. After doing two years of extensive rehabilitation for my brain function, chronic migraines, back, neck and hip problems and barely getting better, I had reached a level of frustration and fear with my future, but my body and brain responded incredibly to my daily lessons with Guruji. Since then the improvements in the quality of my life, my brain function and the disappearing of my chronic pain, as a result of Kriya Yoga practice have been life-changing beyond words. It has single-handedly been the most significant and important aspect of my life and my path and has reached into every aspect of my life, work and into my relationship with my self, others and my own spiritual, mental and physical health. I have lived and travelled extensively in the United States and many other countries. I have taken part in a number of different workshops and practices but I truly feel that Kriya Yoga is far and above any of the practices I have experienced to date. This practice is life-changing and it lasts. Kriya Yoga is like the Holy Grail in India - it is a pathway to self-discovery and enlightenment. This pathway takes man to a much higher plane of self-awareness, and the practice changes a person in many dramatic ways leading to a more blissful existence. There are very few authentic teachers in India - I was very blessed to have met Guruji who is an authentic teacher of this ancient practice. The practice of Kriya Yoga cannot be taught by anyone but a master. Thus the disciples of Guruji cannot teach it - it is a sacred practice that is governed by ancient principles. I could learn Kriya Yoga only from Guruji, and of course only if he accepted me as his disciple. It took me over a year to demonstrate to Guruji that I was serious and had the necessary commitment to practice in order to be initiated. The practice of Kriya Yoga has brought me a great deal of benefits as a single mum with a job which requires me to travel all over the world and manage a large number of people: I feel healthy and energetic. Practising Kriya Yoga has allowed me to balance my life, to stay calm and 'present in the moment' and thus be a lot more productive and effective in my day-to-day life. My persona has changed through the practice Guruji has given me - I now have a deeper understanding and awareness of myself, and emotionally and spiritually I am becoming more mature. The benefits I gain are a direct result of the time and effort that I put in. The more I practise the deeper and more profound the results. C. M. Bhartia

The benefits that I have experienced (physical/mental/emotional) are so many! I am so much more aware. I see myself in a completely different light - and realise that I have so many things to change and improve upon. I have started to put others before me. I have learned to 'let go' of long-held desires. I have stopped blaming others for shortcomings in myself. I see others' views without the veil of selfishness. I have experienced periods of peace that I have never felt before. I don't worry so much about what other people think of me. I find myself waiting before reacting to situations. I am able to put challenges into perspective. To be honest, I feel there was a Kaye pre-Kriya initiation and a Kaye post-Kriya initiation - one who is more aware and one who is more willing to lead a disciplined, peaceful life. I love Guruji so much and am so grateful for all he has done for me. K. Taylor

Kriya Yoga is a powerful technique and only a great spiritual master can help you to walk on that path. Sometimes it is easy to lose the way and only a master can know whether a person is ready to proceed to the more advanced stages of this technique. We need a living master because we are human and Guruji is here to help us. It's only few months that I practise Kriya but I can feel that something has deeply changed, step by step in my way of life. At the moment I feel that all the bad things of the past are disappearing with the practise, day by day, softly. I feel that the practise gives us a way to burn the "walls" created by the negative influence of bad events of the past, helping us to go on with energy and renewed strength. I feel that there is a long way to go but it's a bright future and I'm working to make it better, everyday, with the help of practice and Guruji. M.Pierantoni

My personal reason for wanting to learn Kriya Yoga was the conviction that became stronger and stronger that this was the only way to self-realisation, the inner path to God. Once I made up my mind, I never felt any doubt whatsoever. Years earlier I had had Raja Yoga lessons for four years in Holland, but they did not satisfy or end my search - I was missing something but did not know what it was. Since I met Guruji, I know that I made the right choice. I feel calmness, joy and happiness, and my search is over. M. van Amersfoort

Physically, I have felt improved vitality and a stronger immune system. Spiritually, I feel more connected and aware, and emotionally, I have seen increased confidence and a sense of well-being. V. Harris

Benefits which I have had as a direct result of knowing Guruji and his teachings are that my health has been taken care of; the restlessness within me has been answered; and the more I practise the better things work out. One naturally builds on intuition and becomes more sensitive to self. On the whole, Kriya Yoga practice is a great experience, and expression through words will always be limited as none can parallel the feelings that one experiences through practice. The body-mind interaction within us is more noticeable. The stability of the mind is gradually identified. Dr.D. Tiwari

I was looking for a spiritual teacher of yoga. But I was not interested in following yogis with huge ashrams and thousands of disciples, or spiritual organisations because I wanted a more authentic and intimate relationship. Moreover, when I learnt that Guruji was a spiritual Master of a great lineage of Kriya Yoga and that he had maintained the original technique and way of teaching, I was immediately convinced. I read Footsteps to Freedom by Heidi Wyder after meeting Guruji and I could say that what I had learned from the book was confirmation of what I had experienced myself when I had met him. M. Tripi
